2019 Ride 2 Read Sponsorships & Tickets

Our 2nd Annual Ride 2 Read is an escorted ride scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2019. Breakfast, catered by Henry’s Louisiana Grill, will begin at 9AM and the Ride will take off at 10AM.

Last year’s ride, our very first, generated almost $2,000 and helped our reading programs and enabled us to sponsor International Dyslexia Association events in Georgia.

This year, we have our brand new Upper School building on the very site of where the picnic tables were last year! The support of all the riders was a great help in expanding our programs.

There will be live music again this year by David Arnold as well as other activities by sponsors.

We hope to see you on the 23rd!

4th Annual History & Southern Charm Tour

Seven Beautiful Homes, Seven Astounding Stories

Acworth, GA (September 19, 2018) – Join us on this tour of Acworth’s most beautiful homes, all representative of our history! Starting at the McEver house, pick up your map and and tour these homes in whatever order you choose. Water will be provided and three homes will have wine & cheese.

The 4th Annual Tour is on October 21, 2018 from 2pm until 6pm. This is a self paced walking tour, though there are areas to park if you wish to drive, and shuttles between the longer distances. You will need to begin no later than 4pm to ensure enough time to complete the tour.

This tour started partly as a fundraiser and partly to help showcase the beautiful homes in Acworth. It quickly grew and by the 3rd year we exceeded our expectations and it took a life of its own. Now it’s a self paced tour, making it easier for visitors to complete at their convenience. This year we are coordinating with a local historic group to have docents with either a family tie to the home or know about the home from their childhood, which should make for a more quaint experience.

We owe so much to Abbie Parks, local historian, for her guidance and wealth of information getting this tour started, as well as so selflessly allowing the use of her home each year!

Homes on the 2018 tour:

  1. McEver House c. 1840 (Ticket pick up & purchase)
  2. James W. McMillan House c. 1879
  3. Guess House c. 1909

  5. Sprayberry House c. 1943
  6. Edward W. Lemon c. 1900 (Sponsored by Anchor Realty)
  7. Burtz House c. 1880

The tour ends near Center Street Tavern, another historic site, which has offered a $5 coupon off of $25 on each ticket.

Tickets are on sale now:

-$25 through Saturday, October 13, where they will also be on sale at our booth at Taste of Acworth

About Brookwood Christian School

Brookwood Christian School is a private, non-profit, non-denominational Christian school that serves students who have not been successful in public or private schools due to their unique learning needs: individual or multiple learning disorders such dyslexia, reading & language processing disorders, auditory processing disorders, attention deficit disorder, neurological disorders, and other specific learning disabilities. Most of our operating budget comes from tuition payments augmented by the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (SB-10) program and the Georgia Tax Credit Scholarship (APOGEE). Eighty-six percent of our students receive some sort of financial assistance. Fundraisers like this help keep our operating costs and tuition low.

Christmas Shopping for a Cause!

One of our local businesses, Pearl’s Spa, set up this wonderful fundraiser during their recent open house, and it has been extended through the holiday season.

One Hope Wines is a Napa Valley winery that donates proceeds from every bottle & gift set to various causes, depending on the wine or gift set.  To date they have made more than $2 million in donations, providing over 2,600 clinical trials for cancer patients, 13,000 forever homes for shelter animals, 1.1 million meals for children, 33,000 life-saving vaccines and much more.

When you purchase a GIFT SET or a CASE FOR A CAUSE (30% off of MSRP) through the link below, not only does the charity on the bottle receive a donation, we will receive 10% of the proceeds!  Gift sets start at $49.99 plus shipping and they have something for every occasion as well as non-alcoholic sets.

This can take the stress out of your personal and corporate holiday shopping this year! Shopping must be done through the link below to qualify!

https://secure.viaonehope.com/parties/15967

Please keep Pearl’s Spa, and our other local businesses, in mind while doing your Christmas Shopping. These businesses do so much to support us.

Note:  Someone 21 years or older must be at the delivery address to sign for the order.

#GivingTuesday

As you are making your end of the year tax deductible donations…

TODAY ONLY Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching up to $2 million of funds raised on Facebook for US nonprofits. CLICK HERE to donate using the donate button at the top of our page.

Whether you have $10, $100, or $1000 to give, it all adds up! Especially when being matched! This is also a great way to maximize an end of year tax deduction.

WE need your help to reach our goal of raising $20,000 to furnish the new building and the Science Lab! Here are some ways to engage your friends, family and co-workers:

* Share information about #GivingTuesday on your social media accounts.

* Send an email challenging your co-workers, family and/or friends to give up the money they would spend on coffee and make a donation to Brookwood Christian! You could do the same with giving up lunch or dinner out. Stay home and play board games with your family instead of going to the movies, etc.

* Email your families, friends & contacts an email to encourage giving to Brookwood Christian.

And don’t forget to bring you gently used towels and blankets for our #GivingTowelTuesday!

#MyGivingStory for #GivingTuesday

Please go vote for our story here.  You can vote for as many stories as you want, but only once per story per day through Nov 30.  15 finalists will be chosen to be judged with 1st place receiving $10,000, 2nd receiving $5,000, and 3rd receiving $2,500.

Feel free to write your own #MyGivingStory and name our nonprofit as the award recipient!

Our #MyGivingStory for #GivingTuesday is to give back to a business that supports our fundraising endeavors, Lake City & Acworth Animal Hospitals. We will have #GivingTowelTuesday on the last Tuesday of the month to collect gently used towels and blankets to use for boarding and transport for Road Trip Home Animal Rescue, another cause they support.

We are a private school that serves students who have not been successful in public or private schools due to their unique learning needs. Many of our students are diagnosed with a language based learning disability such as dyslexia.

The current campus was established in 2008 by current Principal/Director, Kim Wigington, in order to better serve her two daughters’ reading comprehension concerns, one with dyslexia and the other an English language learner, adopted from Latvia.

While we are extremely proud of the achievements of our students, we would like to be able to help more students in need of the same services. We have outgrown the current building and are in the process of expanding our campus, costing approximately $675,000, which is why we are eternally grateful to Lake City & Acworth Animal Hospitals for their support in our continuing fundraising efforts.

GuideStar Platinum Seal Recognition!

Great news! Brookwood Christian just earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from

  • Per Pupil Expenditures, and
  • Administrative Costs,

to represent how hard Brookwood Christian is working toward achieving our mission.

We’re proud to use GuideStar Platinum to share our full and complete story with the world. To reach
the Platinum level, we added extensive information to our Nonprofit Profile: basic contact and
