4th Annual History & Southern Charm Tour

Seven Beautiful Homes, Seven Astounding Stories

Acworth, GA (September 19, 2018) – Join us on this tour of Acworth’s most beautiful homes, all representative of our history! Starting at the McEver house, pick up your map and and tour these homes in whatever order you choose. Water will be provided and three homes will have wine & cheese.

The 4th Annual Tour is on October 21, 2018 from 2pm until 6pm. This is a self paced walking tour, though there are areas to park if you wish to drive, and shuttles between the longer distances. You will need to begin no later than 4pm to ensure enough time to complete the tour.

This tour started partly as a fundraiser and partly to help showcase the beautiful homes in Acworth. It quickly grew and by the 3rd year we exceeded our expectations and it took a life of its own. Now it’s a self paced tour, making it easier for visitors to complete at their convenience. This year we are coordinating with a local historic group to have docents with either a family tie to the home or know about the home from their childhood, which should make for a more quaint experience.

We owe so much to Abbie Parks, local historian, for her guidance and wealth of information getting this tour started, as well as so selflessly allowing the use of her home each year!

About Brookwood Christian School

Brookwood Christian School is a private, non-profit, non-denominational Christian school that serves students who have not been successful in public or private schools due to their unique learning needs: individual or multiple learning disorders such dyslexia, reading & language processing disorders, auditory processing disorders, attention deficit disorder, neurological disorders, and other specific learning disabilities. Most of our operating budget comes from tuition payments augmented by the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (SB-10) program and the Georgia Tax Credit Scholarship (APOGEE). Eighty-six percent of our students receive some sort of financial assistance. Fundraisers like this help keep our operating costs and tuition low.

Brookwood Christian celebrates 10th Birthday and Dyslexia Awareness Month

Celebrate with us October 10th, 2018 from 10:30am until 2pm

Acworth, GA (September 19, 2018) — Brookwood Christian School plans its 10th Birthday Extravaganza, Ten on 10/10 (#10on1010), three weeks from today. For 10 years, at this location, the school has served over 200 students with dyslexia or some other type of language processing disorder. On October 10, 2008, the school had the ribbon cutting for the opening of the original building, so it’s appropriate that the ribbon cutting for the new high school building will be on the day of the 10th Birthday celebration.

“It’s such an honor that we can celebrate the school’s 10th birthday during Dyslexia Awareness Month” said Danielle Anderson, Director of Student Affairs, “Not only are we celebrating 10 years of service to help students read, we are celebrating the successes and achievements of these students as well.”

The celebration, which is open to the Acworth Community, features the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony by Mayor Tommy Allegood and City of Acworth officials, a mini outside food court where guests can purchase Chick-fil-A, Pop Bubble Tea (both donating proceeds to the school’s Dyslexia Reading Programs) as well as Flavors of Hawaii Food Truck.  There will also be $1 per minute chair massages by Lori Tanner from Synergy Medical, with all proceeds benefiting the school’s Dyslexia Reading Programs. And of course, it’s not a birthday party without birthday cake, which will be provided by the school.

To thank those donating $30 or more, the school will be giving away 12”x18” collage prints of student art centered around the school and school day activities. Historic Acworth Door Prints will also be for sale.

There will be limited parking at the school with additional parking available at Acworth Baptist Church, a 2 minute walk (less than ½ mile).

#ThankYou Thursday

We would like to thank all who participated in our first #GivingTuesday Campaign. We collected 70 towels to take to Lake City & Acworth Animal Hospitals (one of our biggest supporters) to use for their Road Trip Home Animal Rescue support.

We also raised $1,870 from the Facebook #GivingTuesday donation campaign. Unfortunately, we weren’t fast enough to receive any of the matching funds, but the donations are well appreciated regardless!

#GivingTuesday

As you are making your end of the year tax deductible donations…

TODAY ONLY Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching up to $2 million of funds raised on Facebook for US nonprofits. CLICK HERE to donate using the donate button at the top of our page.

Whether you have $10, $100, or $1000 to give, it all adds up! Especially when being matched! This is also a great way to maximize an end of year tax deduction.

WE need your help to reach our goal of raising $20,000 to furnish the new building and the Science Lab! Here are some ways to engage your friends, family and co-workers:

* Share information about #GivingTuesday on your social media accounts.

* Send an email challenging your co-workers, family and/or friends to give up the money they would spend on coffee and make a donation to Brookwood Christian! You could do the same with giving up lunch or dinner out. Stay home and play board games with your family instead of going to the movies, etc.

* Email your families, friends & contacts an email to encourage giving to Brookwood Christian.

And don’t forget to bring you gently used towels and blankets for our #GivingTowelTuesday!
