Hurricane Florence Relief

Please help if you can!!

Hurricane Florence has adversely affected so many, and we found out that a dear friend of one of our families is the principal at Laurel Hill Elementary School in Laurinburg, Scotland County, NC.  After reaching out to the administration at Laurel Hill, it seems that they have more families displaced than they originally thought.🙁

In the same spirit of adopting Friendswood Junior High after hurricane Harvey, we are going to adopt Laurel Hill and help as we can.  We will be sending these store specific (Walmart, Food Lion, Save-a-Lot, and Lowes), or generic (AMEX, VISA, MasterCard), gift cards to assist these families.

If you would like to help us, please send as many gift cards as you’d like in denominations of $20 to $25, or less, so that they are easier for school to share.  Please do not think that any amount is too small, they all add up and they are in such dire need! Last year we raised over $1,5oo in gift cards. They definitely add up quickly.

When you send them in, please make sure your name is attached (and address if not a BCS student/family)  and you will receive a tax deduction letter from us for this cause.

We will take these donations until they stop coming in. We will send first round in about 2 weeks, and then keep sending periodically as we get them. This time frame may change depending on the situation there, as there are reports of more evacuation because of flooding. We will make sure they are sent when we know someone is there to receive them.

Please drop off to Ms. Danielle, Ms. Julie, or Ms. Becky, OR… if you are mailing them:

4th Annual History & Southern Charm Tour

Seven Beautiful Homes, Seven Astounding Stories

Acworth, GA (September 19, 2018) – Join us on this tour of Acworth’s most beautiful homes, all representative of our history! Starting at the McEver house, pick up your map and and tour these homes in whatever order you choose. Water will be provided and three homes will have wine & cheese.

The 4th Annual Tour is on October 21, 2018 from 2pm until 6pm. This is a self paced walking tour, though there are areas to park if you wish to drive, and shuttles between the longer distances. You will need to begin no later than 4pm to ensure enough time to complete the tour.

This tour started partly as a fundraiser and partly to help showcase the beautiful homes in Acworth. It quickly grew and by the 3rd year we exceeded our expectations and it took a life of its own. Now it’s a self paced tour, making it easier for visitors to complete at their convenience. This year we are coordinating with a local historic group to have docents with either a family tie to the home or know about the home from their childhood, which should make for a more quaint experience.

We owe so much to Abbie Parks, local historian, for her guidance and wealth of information getting this tour started, as well as so selflessly allowing the use of her home each year!

Brookwood Christian celebrates 10th Birthday and Dyslexia Awareness Month

Celebrate with us October 10th, 2018 from 10:30am until 2pm

Acworth, GA (September 19, 2018) — Brookwood Christian School plans its 10th Birthday Extravaganza, Ten on 10/10 (#10on1010), three weeks from today. For 10 years, at this location, the school has served over 200 students with dyslexia or some other type of language processing disorder. On October 10, 2008, the school had the ribbon cutting for the opening of the original building, so it’s appropriate that the ribbon cutting for the new high school building will be on the day of the 10th Birthday celebration.

“It’s such an honor that we can celebrate the school’s 10th birthday during Dyslexia Awareness Month” said Danielle Anderson, Director of Student Affairs, “Not only are we celebrating 10 years of service to help students read, we are celebrating the successes and achievements of these students as well.”

The celebration, which is open to the Acworth Community, features the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony by Mayor Tommy Allegood and City of Acworth officials, a mini outside food court where guests can purchase Chick-fil-A, Pop Bubble Tea (both donating proceeds to the school’s Dyslexia Reading Programs) as well as Flavors of Hawaii Food Truck.  There will also be $1 per minute chair massages by Lori Tanner from Synergy Medical, with all proceeds benefiting the school’s Dyslexia Reading Programs. And of course, it’s not a birthday party without birthday cake, which will be provided by the school.

To thank those donating $30 or more, the school will be giving away 12”x18” collage prints of student art centered around the school and school day activities. Historic Acworth Door Prints will also be for sale.

There will be limited parking at the school with additional parking available at Acworth Baptist Church, a 2 minute walk (less than ½ mile).
